In Chinese history, Nanmu (Phoebe zhennan) stands as the most revered among the "Four Great Woods" – Nanmu, Camphor, Catalpa, and Cao. Golden Nanmu (Jinsinanmu) is the rarest variety, distinguished by its natural golden silk-like luster and satin sheen, making it exceptionally precious.

Since the Qin and Han dynasties (221 BC – 220 AD), Golden Nanmu has been cherished by Chinese royalty and nobility.
